With PastDNA, your raw DNA data never leaves your device. Instead, we use local processing and homomorphic encryption to analyze your DNA data directly on your device.

Follow These Simple Steps to Analyze Your DNA with PastDNA

Select Your DNA File

Choose a raw DNA file from 23andMe, MyHeritage, or FTDNA in TXT format. Processing occurs locally — your data is never uploaded.

Enter Your Place of Origin and Known Ancestry Composition
Wait for Local Computation to Complete

Processing requires downloading a large amount of reference data and performing complex computations using homomorphic encryption. This usually takes a few minutes. The output consists of encrypted coordinates in a 25-dimensional PCA space.

Submit encrypted results.

After submission, you'll receive a randomly generated ID and a link to your results page.

Results Processing

At the next step, the coordinates will be decrypted, and distances to our reference samples database within the 25-dimensional PCA space will be calculated.
Your results showing the distances to the top nearest samples and groups will be populated on your results page once the server has finished processing.
This usually takes a few hours.

Your Data Has Been Successfully Uploaded for Processing

The encrypted data, consisting solely of your coordinates in the new multidimensional PCA space, as well as your entered location and ancestral composition, has been successfully uploaded for further processing.
